A family owned business

In 1923, Nehlsen was formed by Karl Nehlsen in Bremen, and he was succeeded 30 years later by his son Dieter, who lead the company until his death in 1995. The challenges of managing the family-owned business continued first through Dieter’s wife Ilse Nehlsen and now her nephew Peter Hoffmeyer is chairman of the board.

Karl-Heinz Marg presides over the supervisory board as chairman, with Ilse Nehlsen continuing her involvement as the honorary chairperson.

In 1999 Peter Hoffmeyer was awarded the prestigious ‘Businessman of the Year’ by Bremen’s chamber of commerce, which reflected the continued success of the company. Between 2004 and November 2008, he was also elected as president of the federation of the German waste management industry (BDE - Bundesverband der Deutschen Entsorgungswirtschaft e.V.).

Convinced that technology will help to provide solutions for tomorrow, Peter Hoffmeyer is currently active as one of four Ambassadors for Climate Protection for the charitable Bremen Business Agency for Climate Protection. His approach can be summarised as: ‘You shouldn’t lose faith in technology, if you want better solutions for tomorrow’.
